Silhouette is evolving rapidly, expanding beyond its roots as a roto and paint tool. Production artists must keep up not only with new features but also with how these tools apply to real-world work. SIL104: Silhouette in Production is for those who completed SIL101, SIL102, SIL103, or have equivalent experience. This course helps deepen roto and paint skills while aligning with modern workflows.
This course, using Silhouette v2025.5, features 12 classes, 10 16-bit EXR shots, and over 6 hours of instruction. It builds on skills from earlier SIL101, SIL102, and SIL103 courses.
SIL104 starts with two refresher classes on recent roto and paint updates, then covers new features and workflows. Silhouette now supports advanced roto, paint, compositing, 2D and 3D tracking, and Machine Learning tools.
The course details ML nodes, including Denoise ML, Face ML, Mask ML, Matte Assist ML, Matte Refine ML, and Motion Blur ML. Two ML-focused sessions demonstrate automatic matte creation and edge treatment across three shots, highlighting their uses from previs to final comp.
Next, a four-part Beauty Work shot combines Mocha Powermesh, the Morph node, Inpainting, Face ML, and the new Cryptomatte workflow. A two-part challenge follows with plate reconstruction, simulating real production problem-solving.
The course finishes with two classes on the new SynthEyes camera solver in Silhouette’s 3D Scene node, exploring paint workflows and 3D data usage for roto and paint.
Whether it’s been a year or just a few months since you used Silhouette, SIL104 will quickly bring you up to speed with the latest production tools and workflows, helping you work more efficiently and confidently on your next project.
Special thanks to Damien Vergez (Fast Fokus), Ben Brownlee (Boris FX), and ActionVFX for providing the footage featured throughout the course.
