The 2018 edition of the VIEW conference wrapped up on Friday after four days full of great presentations. Here are some images from the event to give you a taste of what you missed.

The conference moved to a brand new venue this year, the Officine Grandi Riparazioni. The location is a former railway factory and went through an impressive rehab to turn it into a contemporary events center. High ceilings, exposed brick, and a common area provide a great place to meet between talks.

On Friday, Carolyn Giardina hosted a “Women in Animation” panel, which discussed gender issues in the industry. The panelists were Mireille Soria, Nora Twomey, Danielle Feinberg, and Emanuela Cozzi.

ILM artist Glenn McIntosh gave a couple of talks during the week, including a Monday Masterclass covering the design of the dinosaurs in Jurassic World. What was great about the presentation is that McIntosh went into incredible detail about the development process, explaining the various decisions made while ending up with the final creatures. His enthusiasm for the art and craft, as well as his love of dinosaurs, were clearly visible. After the talk, students crowded around him as he held an impromptu drawing session.

Pixar’s Dylan Sission led several sessions during the week, sharing the latest RenderMan news.

More speakers at the event included Danielle Feinberg, Florian Gellinger, Kim Davidson, Matt Aitken, Don Greenberg, and Joao Sita.

At the end of Hans Zimmer’s keynote address on Tuesday, a group of grade school kids performed a tribute of Zimmer’s music. He seemed genuinely touched by the performance, filming it on his phone.
