GoPro launches Karma and the HERO5

GoPro has announced three new products: their Karma drone, the HERO5 Black, and HERO5 Session.

Karma

The $799 Karma drone has a 3-axis camera stabilizer which can be removed from the drone and attached to the included Karma Grip for handheld or mounted use. To fly the drone, it uses an included “game-style controller” with an integrated touch display instead of a mobile phone or other app. Some key tech specs are:

  • Maximum Flight Altitude 14,500ft (4,500m)
  • Maximum Wind Resistance 22mph (10m/s)

HERO5 Black

The $399 HERO5 Black includes a 2-inch integrated touch screen with a new look and housing that is waterproof to 10 meters. It shoots up to 4K video at 30fps (12MP stills), has a RAW still mode, voice control, GPS, as well as cloud features such as image upload. It’s compatible with existing GoPro mounts.

HERO5 Session

The $299 HERO5 Session is the same form factor as the previous Session camera, but gets a bump in recording resolution up to 4K at 30fps. It also supports the new GoPro cloud features as well.
