v5/8 Gotchas (Updated 3/4/03)

Batch Views
A couple of people have noted that navigating in Batch can be quite confusing at first because of the changes in hotkeys. For an introduction to the new batch, you can view the fxguide QuickTime tutorial. But in the meantime, the two big navigation hotkeys are: [Esc] and [~]

[Esc] Switches between the current view and the batch schematic.
[CTRL-Esc] Always takes you to 1-up batch schematic and nodes bin.
[~] This will toggle between the local result and a local schematic such as action. This can also be used for gGasks and in the Modular Keyer

(thanks to Pascal Favron for pointing out the need to highlight this tip here as well).

Player
The player is essentially the fire player now, and for that reason several items changed or were added:

[Filtering] Button – Turn off so that it behaves like the previous inferno player. With filtering on, you will get bilinear resampling of the image, avoiding blocky artifacts as you zoom.

[Allow Frame Drops] – to have the player behave like previous versions, select [Play All Frames] from the blue popup menu. With allow frame drops selected, frames will be dropped in order to maintain real time playback and therefore you won’t see some of the frames in your clip.

FPS – The player will now respect the fps of your clip when you enter the player. So if your 30fps NTSC clip has been film compressed, it will play at 24fps instead of 30. This can introduce slightly jerky motion, since interlacing is not being added to your clip. However, the new player can automatically insert 3:2 pulldown for such clips so they can play cleanly on the broadcast monitor. Just enable the [2:3 Insertion] button

Batch
Not all of the modules in batch have been fully integrated ala action (“batchion”). The following modules are not integrated and require you to still enter [Edit] mode:

Sparks

Keyer

Modular Keyer
