Tracking Two Moving Images

Reconciling tracking of one clip to another (1-point)

figure 1

1. In “Action”, load clip you want to match tracking to in “Back” layer.

2. Load the clip you want to track to the “Back” into “Layer 1”

3. Add an “Image” (Image + Axis#1) in the Schematic view, then add a 2nd extra “Axis” (Axis#2). Parent “Axis#2” to the “Axis#1-Image” so you end up with “Axis#2” parenting “Axis#1” parenting “Image”. (Figure #1)
– Axis#2 will eventually contain tracking information (In the Position X and Y channels)
– Axis#1 will contain offset information (so you can Line-Up or Offset your two images)
– “Image” will contain image stabilization information (In the Offset X and Y channels).

4. Select “Axis#2” icon in the schematic view. Press the “Axis” menu button, and set the blue stabilizer toggle button to “Track”. Press the “S” stabilizer button (this will take you into the “Stabilizer” module and allow you to “Analyze” the “Back” clip for tracking information).

5. Deactivate 2nd (Green) tracker. “Analyze” clip in stabilizer with tracker 1 (Red). Press “Save” button to get back to action menu.

6. Select the “Image” icon in the schematic view. Press the “Axis” menu button (not the Schematic Axis#1 icon). Set the blue stabilizer toggle button to “Stabilize”. Press the “S” stabilizer button (this will take you into the “Stabilizer” module and allow you to “Analyze” the “Layer 1” clip for stabilizing information).

7. Deactivate 2nd (Green) tracker. “Analyze” clip in stabilizer with tracker 1 (Red). Press “Save” button to get back to action menu.

8. Make sure the blue menu box “Selected/Branch/All” is set to “Selected”. (Figure #2) Select the “Axis#1” icon in the schematic. Press the “Reset” menu botton to reset X and Y coordinates to 0. If the blue menu box is set to “Branch”, resetting the axis will then reset the Image/Offset curves as well (This is where the “Stabilization” coordinates are held). If you want to offset the image to a different location, you may do so in “Axis#1”.

9. “Play” (>) the “Result” (PlayLock set to off)within the action module to make sure the images are lining up correctly on all frames.

10. If step 8 goes well, process the clip or save the setups for future
