Stupid FFI Tricks

Hot key tricks.

In the Hot key editor it is now possible to link hot keys to provide incremental numerics

Go to the Axis menu,
Open the Hot key editor as normal, using F8
Select the num box for x axis
Select the button to be mapped ( say 6 on the num pad) and change value to relative float,
now set the increment to 1.
When your done save and clone the hotkey and you can set another hot key for -1, say num pad button 4
( Yes you can set multiple hotkeys for the same GUI button!)

Now you can increment any axis around – a la Photoshop.

While we are discussing hot keys here are a couple of other very useful Hot keys.

One of the more simple hotkeys is, Control Alt K, which will turn the keyboard off

In action ( or batch ) you can check on the progress of a background i/o using F11

Play tricks.

Most people know that while the cursor is over a clip that ESC will enter the play module with the target clip, but less people know that CNTRL-ESC will load all the clips in that reel into the play module ? You can advance to the next clip – from inside the play module using a double click on the >| (end of clip button)

To see the contents of a clip in the library many people drag-shuttle over a clip, but in both the library ( and on the desktop) if you position the cusor over a clip and hit return it will play the clip as a proxy – including playing the audio.

Output tricks.

FFI normally insert edits, but CNTL-output will allow an assemble edit.

Tracker.

Sometimes such as in the edit offsets tracking menu – you want to move the actual stabliser after a track is complete.. SHIFT TRANSLATE allows you to move the tracker without effecting the track.

Channel editor, little known tricks.

When adding a key frame to a complex curve in hermite – the curve is effected either side of the new key frame, when working in Natural mode the curve remains the same even when you add keyframes into an existing curve.

When you want to select keyframes from a channel curve – but another curve is also in the same area on screen ( so a normal drag select would highlight keyframes in both curves.. use control F and only the currently selected channels key frames will be selected.

Memory tokens.

When you start up a new project, you need to set the memory token, while there are well documented proceedures for setting the memory token’s – so that you maximise the system’s render performance in modules such as Action and do not run out of free memory and start having to swap at the system level…however for those of you who would like a guide or best guess, JF recently offered these stats as a good “rule of thumb” ( don’t forget to check gr_osview -R and watch for yellow swap on startup if your concerned, and aim for 20% system memory free).

For an ONYX 2 with 2Gig of RAM ..
PAL/NTSC resolution around 300 ( the default is only 50)
HD resolution about 50 ~70
Film resolution 8 bit 2K – around 30
