Resolve v11 Fundamentals will teach you how to use the new DaVinci Resolve v11 color correction and grading software from Blackmagic Design. Taught by Warren Eagles, this all-new course contains over five hours of training covering the fundamentals you need to know to get most out of this new release. This course is ideal for people new to color correction, Editors, DITs, DPs, VFX artists and Directors. Warren always tries to show you why you do something not just how to do them. Follow the classes then load the same footage and get grading.
Warren has been grading for 25 years. He started in photography before moving into London’s film cutting rooms, settling into the role of Colorist. Warren has extensive experience in all forms of grading, from Super 8 music videos to feature films. A Resolve user since 2005, he is proficient in both the software and what can be achieved creatively with it. Warren has his own DaVinci Resolve system in Australia and spends his time either grading or teaching International Colorist Academy classes.

Resolve v11 Course Outline
Class 1: Resolve, what’s it all about?
“Sit back and relax, you don’t have to do anything in this lesson.” Learn about Warren as he walks you through Resolve v11, examining some of the exciting new features while talking about his career in the industry.
Class 2: Getting started with Resolve.
“It is not that hard to learn, easy for me to say” An outline of basic Resolve media project settings, as well as how to transfer media in from your system or external drive.
Class 3: Primary correction
“The most important control you will use…” Focused on adding contrast and color balance to a shot, improving visuals. Observe how the Color Match feature enables you to color correct automatically, using the color chart that was filmed on the shoot. The scopes explained, why and how to use them.
Class 4: Editing, Conforming, Text
“How do I bring my sequence into Resolve?” Editing features detailed, enabling swift transition in Resolve between editing and coloring. Editing in FCP or Premiere, use an XML and EDL to bring your sequence into Resolve. Examples in this class are GoPro footage from Wakeboarding and Snowboarding shoots.
Class 5: Secondary Corrections
“Why we use secondaries, what are they and how do they make my picture look better?” Learn how to key with the qualifier or curves to change the hue of a single object in your picture, such as the sky, skin tones or T-Shirt.
Class 6: Windows and Keyframing
“A grade in a shape can enhance your product, really make it stand out” How to lock a window to a moving subject. See how to create 5 different window shapes and how to animate them with keyframes.
Class 7: Tracking
“Tracking is cool and fast but what happens when it goes wrong?” Warren blurs the face then auto tracks the blurred window as the person moves. All tracking options are explained.
Class 8: Node operation
“Nodes are great, but which one to use?” The Nodes are the key to successful grading in Resolve. Warren will walk through the different Resolve Nodes and try to demystify them. Layer v Parallel, what is the difference?
Class 9: Grading Digital Material, BMD?
“I just want to view and transcode my rushes” The class will look at a Dailies workflow from input to render. Understanding the new metadata controls for RAW camera files, including Blackmagic CinemaDNG and Red R3D.
Class 10: Workflow
“A grading session from start to finish in 30mins” Starting from conforming your footage, moving on to grading and adding looks before ultimately rendering. Also how to use Scene Detect and work with the Gallery.
