Yellowstone Day One

[ back to full list ]

The fxphd crew landed in Bozeman Montana today to get set for filming in Yellowstone National Park for the DOP211 course. Mike and Mat flew in from Sydney and Tyler Ginter will be joining us later tonight. Our homebase lodge is up in the pine hills at about 5,700ft — we’re expecting to get some beautiful nighttime shots due to the lack of city lights in the area.

Good news is that our gear arrived…and it’s quite a list that we’re gonna have a lot of fun with. From a Kessler CineSlider to the Canon 400mm f2.8 and tilt shift lenses, car mounts, and more. This is all gear we’ll be covering during the term as well as how to get the most out of our footage in post.

Tomorrow…first day of filming in Yellowstone. Word is that the pronghorn, bison, and grizzlies have been pretty visible for the last couple of weeks. If not, the scenery is wonderful in and of itself…

  1. The only time I’ve been to Bozeman was while shooting a documentary on community wind power. The short version is up on my web site on the “News” page. Pretty country and nice people. Good luck on your safari to Yellowstone.
