DSLRs are just hitting the point where they can be used as serious production tools. Lead by the Canon 5D Mk II these high end stills cameras are providing serious cinematography options for any major project. Stu Maschwitz is leading the course here in Tokyo. And it is reasonable to say we are having a blast shooting here.
Rather than focus on just one project, we have set up a range of shoots here to cover the major aspects of DSLR cinematography from an early morning ‘Doco’ style shoot at the Toyko fish markets, to model shoots in the Ginza, and geek outs in the heart of the Tokyo camera district on reviewing the state of the art in sensors, frame rates, camera supports, lens choices and cameras.
It is so cool to be able to bring you guys this course on what it takes to shoot cinematically with these DSLRs from one of the most respected directors and indie ‘Rebel’ film makers. This is such an amazing country and we are getting such diverse imagery from each shoot. Shooting footage with such a small camera as a DSLR – which of course looks like a stills camera, means we have been able to shoot serious video in areas we would normally never be allowed – without a single problem from anyone. Plus the material Stu has been getting is spectacular. You guys are going to love this course.

Defenetly i”ll be studying this class. Just bought the 5dMk2 and dying to get deeper into the video workflows.
I’d expect some advices concerning the still shoots for post (as the previous class about photography), and some others concerning the how toz for shooting footages in a matchmoving project. (getting an hdr of the scene and integrating a 3d geomtetry on post ).
This course is like the one i was waiting for, so thank you very much, and have a lot of fun doing it !

Cool course, would Nikon Shooters benefit from this course down the road when that brand of camera is able to shoot video? I’m asking because I am very interested in taking the course, but I’ve invested my money in Nikon lens and won’t be switching to Canon for that reason. I can’t wait to preview the first two weeks!
