Damian Allen is well-known in the visual effects industry as a leading technique and technology consultant. Most recently he has served as the Chief Technology Officer and Compositing Supervisor for 3DRevolution, a 2D-3D conversion studio which completed conversion work for Hollywood features such as Immortals (2011) and Cats and Dogs 2 (2010). In his role as CTO, Damian was the architect behind the entire proprietary conversion pipeline based on Nuke and the accompanying standalone depth-matte creation software.
He has authored three books on the subject of computer graphics including The Encyclopedia of Visual Effects and worked as a consultant to Apple Inc on the development of the Shake platform (back when it was still a platform…). In addition to consulting, Damian works from time to time as a freelance compositor on Hollywood feature films and broadcast projects, most recently the reboots of Spider-Man and Total Recall. Damian returns to fxphd to teach a new course NUK218: 3D Modeling and Animation for NUKE Compositors.
