Wally as I discussed in my presentation - I am all for effective communication of the takeout - very much so. Actually there was some discounting of creative content at that lunch - but as I showed in my talk this is very much a negative if you want your ads to be effective. Production values add so much to a campaign being effective, intrusive and successful. The problem is that only the really good suits understand creative effectiveness - re timing the phone number for example may have 10x the effectiveness of increasing the font size.

BTW as I mentioned I was very impressed with the conference and especially Upstairs fx presence. I just wish I could have attended the font presentation.

HDRs: these are used to 'record' the lighting coming to a point and therefore allow accurate cgi to be added with the correct lighting. They can also be used as reflection maps or environment maps.

thanks

Totally agree with you Mike! Suits should stay in their offices where they belong... But i have a suit question... hehe

Why do you need HDRs? I am new to VFX and Im trying to learn. I know it was used a lot in The Dark Knight (thanks Fxguide!)... What is it for? How it is used in post?

Not a suit! Just a student!

Thanks,

Hey Mike, we never got to this topic in our conversations during your visit, but it's funny that a couple of us actually discussed this very topic at one of the functions that evening. The truth is that some of the "suit" types have made often important, but overlooked contributions to many of the campaigns we all work on. Account Planners and Account Executives often find themselves in slightly adversarial positions from us due to their responsibility to defend the point of view of their clients.

Many times they have to fight to get that phone number just a little bigger, just a little longer. I guess we do need to cut them some slack, after all that phone number is what pays our wages in the long run...
