The setThe shoot we did on Monday at Resolution Digital Studios for the new advanced After Effects course at fxphd.com went fantastic. A shoot day is always a long day but was a blast to do. Chicago-based DOP Bob Faison and gaffer Ron Lahey did an absolute brilliant job of getting the set together and making sure we had some great footage. Big props go to Fletcher Chicago for supplying the RED camera (as ours is happily based in Sydney). They provide rentals for high end shoots across the midwest and North American and are simply a pleasure to work with….we can’t recommend them highly enough.

The key was to have a concept to motivate what we were shooting.  Mark Christiansen came up with the idea of having some folks hanging out in a loungy stylized environment, being presented with an increasingly complex set of authorization steps in order to play a song or music video. They’re kinda skeptical about the technology and the hoops they have to jump through. The interactive tabletop surface they’re sitting at to play the media provides title designer Mark Coleran with the vehicle for his work. Course members will get access to the footage so they can create their own environment and UI for their reel.
